Big Boost for Winter Tourism: Kashmir Starts 2-Week Ski Training, New Tourism Website Launched

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday launched a 14-day ski training programme in Kashmir, giving a fresh push to winter tourism in the Valley. The training will be held at famous snow destinations including Gulmarg, Sonmarg and Doodhpathri.

The Chief Minister said around 500 to 600 students between the ages of 12 and 18 will receive certified ski training this year. The programme is designed to teach basic skiing skills such as balance, gliding, snow ploughing and turning, making the sport easier and more affordable for young learners.

The ski course was inaugurated virtually from the Civil Secretariat in Jammu. Officials said the aim is to place Kashmir firmly on the global skiing map and attract more winter visitors to the region.

On the same occasion, Omar Abdullah also unveiled the 2026 calendars of the Tourism Department and the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation. The calendars showcase beautiful photographs of Kashmir and Jammu, highlighting scenic landscapes, cultural heritage and key tourist attractions.

Calling the calendars more than just yearly publications, the Chief Minister said they tell the visual story of Jammu and Kashmir’s natural beauty and growing tourism infrastructure.

Adding another major step, the Chief Minister also launched the official website of the Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir. The new website will share information about tourist places, upcoming events, and travel services. It also brings together useful links to Jammu Tourism, JKTDC and the Cable Car Corporation on one platform.

Omar Abdullah said a strong digital presence is important to reach travelers across the world. He added that the new website will act as a single window for tourists and tourism partners looking to explore Jammu and Kashmir.
