Kashmir is not just a place as it feels alive. When you land at Srinagar airport, it feels like you are leaving behind the busy modern world and stepping into a calm land of beauty, colors, and peace.
People often call Kashmir “Paradise on Earth.” A 4-day trip shows why. You smell cedarwood in the air, hear paddles moving through quiet water, and see the Himalayas standing tall like protectors. This trip is not only about seeing famous places, but also about feeling the soul of Kashmir.
This is a simple guide to help you experience the best of Kashmir.
Day 1: Dal Lake and Houseboats
Location: Srinagar & Dal Lake
Your journey starts at Dal Lake. Instead of staying in regular hotels, stay on a traditional Kashmiri houseboat made of cedarwood. These houseboats are beautiful, peaceful, and full of history.
In the evening, take a ride on a Shikara, a small wooden boat. You will pass floating gardens and see people living the same way they have for many years. Watch lotus flowers close and birds dive into the water.
Tip: Ask your Shikara driver to take you to the “Golden Lake” area at sunset. The mountains reflect on the water and turn everything golden.
Day 2: Gulmarg – High in the Mountains
Location: Gulmarg
After breakfast with local bread and pink tea, travel to Gulmarg. It is a beautiful mountain town surrounded by forests and open fields.
The main attraction is the Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest cable cars in the world. As you go higher, trees disappear and you see snow-covered mountains or colorful flowers, depending on the season. From the top, the views are wide and breathtaking.
Later, walk through the meadows. In winter, people ski here. In summer, you can enjoy fresh air and green fields. The air feels clean and refreshing.
Day 3: Pahalgam and the River Valley
Location: Pahalgam
Today you travel through Pampore, known for its saffron fields. In autumn, purple flowers cover the land. You can buy saffron from small roadside shops.
Pahalgam is built along the Lidder River, whose blue-green water flows through the town. The sound of the river is calm and relaxing. Visit Betaab Valley or go to Aru Valley, where shepherds still take care of their animals.
Food Experience: Try Wazwan, a traditional Kashmiri feast with many dishes. Popular foods include Rista (meatballs) and Rogan Josh.
Day 4: Old Srinagar and Farewell
Location: Old Srinagar
Before leaving, explore Old Srinagar. It has narrow streets, old markets, spice shops, and copper workshops.
Visit Jamia Masjid, a large wooden mosque supported by many tall pillars. Inside, it is very quiet and peaceful. You can also see how Pashmina shawls are made by hand. Real Pashmina is very soft and fine.
As you leave Kashmir and look at the mountains one last time, you understand something special. Kashmir is not just a place you visit,, it stays with you, in your memories and in your heart.
